About the position

The Commodity Manager II in Strategic Procurement is responsible for overseeing the procurement and management of goods and services for a business unit. This role involves developing and implementing category plans, driving cost optimization, and managing supplier relationships to maximize value for the organization. The position plays a critical role in managing high-impact supply chain initiatives and influencing organizational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies that align with business objectives to optimize category spend.
  • Create comprehensive category plans to drive cost efficiencies, improve supplier performance, and meet strategic goals.
  • Manage relationships with 3-4 key suppliers, focusing on Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), performance monitoring, and risk mitigation.
  • Analyze category spend (typically above $25M) to identify opportunities for savings, process improvements, and value creation.
  • Lead complex negotiations to secure favorable terms, mitigate risks, and drive supplier accountability.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance procurement efficiency and supply chain performance.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to align category strategies with organizational goals and project requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business, Engineering or other job-related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years materials or services procurement experience with significant exposure to strategic supply chain management issues.
  • In lieu of bachelor's degree, professional certification (e.g., CPM, CPSM) and nine (9) years of significant, closely related materials/services/supply chain experience.
  • Associate's degree in business or related discipline, professional certification (e.g., CPM, CPSM) and seven (7) years of significant, closely related materials/services/supply chain experience.
  • Experience in conducting supplier negotiations.
  • Experience in reviewing and redlining contracts.
  • Experience in RFx processes (RFP, RFI, RFQ, and/or request for bid).

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or master's degree in a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as CPM or CPSM.
  • Working knowledge of procurement systems, supply chain techniques, and TCO analysis.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and inventory management systems.
  • In-depth understanding of category management, supplier diversity, and contract management.
