About the position

The Communication and Marketing Specialist for the College of Performing Arts (CoPA) at Chapman University plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing comprehensive communication and publicity strategies. This position works closely with the Dean of CoPA to enhance the visibility and reputation of the college through effective marketing and communication efforts. The specialist will collaborate with various stakeholders, including administrators, faculty, staff, and the Strategic Marketing and Communications (SMC) team, to achieve the marketing, communications, public relations, and event goals of CoPA. Key responsibilities include drafting messaging for the Dean and faculty, orchestrating tactics to deliver these messages, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of all communications related to CoPA. The specialist will also participate in relevant meetings, assist with event planning and publicity, and support the Dean in various communication efforts. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying target audiences and utilizing various communication mediums to promote CoPA's distinctiveness and excellence in the performing arts. The position demands a strong ability to design and produce creative marketing materials, manage social media and web content, and maintain a master calendar for communications. The specialist will also be responsible for analyzing the effectiveness of marketing efforts and making recommendations for improvements. Overall, this role is essential in promoting the College of Performing Arts and supporting its mission through strategic communication and marketing initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to support recruitment efforts for CoPA.
  • Collaborate with SMC to design and produce marketing materials for institutional publicity.
  • Advise the Dean on best practices in communication mediums and branding protocols.
  • Compile and maintain updates for the CoPA website and social media.
  • Maintain a master calendar for communications and production schedules.
  • Coordinate with Legal Affairs for engaging independent contractors as needed.
  • Work with vendors to ensure quality and timely delivery of services.
  • Design and produce content for various media including social media, websites, and print materials.
  • Ensure cost-effective creation of publicity materials for CoPA events.
  • Review and develop written content for social media and print media platforms.
  • Identify and coordinate advertising opportunities for CoPA.
  • Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of CoPA marketing efforts.
  • Coordinate market research instruments to collect relevant information.

Requirements

  • Proven ability in designing and producing creative marketing materials, preferably in a performing arts context.
  • Experience using social and print media for promotion.
  • Three to five years of professional experience in public relations or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in PR, Communications, English, or a related subject, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication skills for managing university coverage and publicity.
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, editing, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Technical skills to learn necessary enterprise systems and design tools.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently in a busy environment.
  • Strong analytical skills for assessing situations and providing recommendations.
  • Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand and follow university policies and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with diverse individuals at all organizational levels.
