About the position

The Communications Dispatcher II role at the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) is a temporary position responsible for providing dispatch support to managers, supervisors, field crews, and operations personnel within the City Distribution Division. This position plays a critical role in managing water-related emergencies and ensuring effective communication across various departments, contributing to the efficient operation of the water distribution system in San Francisco.

Responsibilities

  • Generate service requests for water-related emergencies and notify stakeholders.
  • Operate Centracom radio console to communicate with field units and make announcements on the public address system.
  • Respond to mark and locate requests and communicate response efforts to the City claims department.
  • Coordinate vehicle relocates and submit emergency excavation permits for water emergencies.
  • Log all emergency response activities and document incidents in the electronic log system.
  • Make personnel calls for overtime on behalf of supervisors and operators.
  • Operate main entry gates and monitor surveillance equipment and intrusion alarms.

Requirements

  • Two years of verifiable experience operating a two-way radio communications base station, or a combination of two years of experience operating a multi-line telephone and a two-way radio communications base system, with at least one year of experience operating a two-way radio base station.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using electronic database systems and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Knowledge of Citywide reporting procedures and emergency response programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in emergency response coordination.
  • Familiarity with water distribution systems and operations.
