The Communication Dispatcher II at Westfield State University plays a crucial role in public safety by managing radio communications, dispatching police and security personnel, and monitoring various emergency systems. Responsibilities

  • Transmit messages from a radio communications base station in accordance with FCC rules.
  • Dispatch police and institutional security officers to calls for service and complaints.
  • Monitor various radio frequencies to receive, evaluate, and forward information.
  • Operate radio transmitting and receiving equipment.
  • Answer routine and emergency phone calls.
  • Maintain records and logs of information on the computer database.
  • Check computer files to obtain information.
  • Coordinate all radio communications including emergency systems.
  • Relay messages and instructions to mobile or fixed stations.
  • Monitor and control the University Camera System in support of police operations.
  • Activate and control the Emergency Notification System to alert the campus community.
  • Monitor alarms activated on the Simplex alarm system touch-screen.
  • Monitor the Criminal Justice Information System for broadcasts from police departments.
  • Provide training to Public Safety Staff in dispatching procedures.
