About the position

The Communication & Education Specialist at the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) plays a vital role in promoting outdoor participation and educating the community about wildlife conservation. This full-time position involves coordinating fishing programs, developing educational materials, and engaging with the public to foster a knowledgeable community of hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts. The specialist will also serve as a communication liaison, sharing information through various media outlets and community events.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate fishing R3 (recruitment, retention, and reactivation) efforts.
• Plan, promote, and conduct fishing programs and events.
• Develop and implement the state R3 plan for recruitment, retention, and reactivation of anglers.
• Conduct Aquatic Resources Education classes, workshops, and clinics.
• Train and equip teachers to add outdoor lessons to their curriculum.
• Design and develop educational materials and maintain relevant equipment and supplies.
• Deliver presentations to the public and attend trade shows to promote agency goals.
• Maintain good working relationships with media and represent the agency in interviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Education, Biology, or related field.
• Working knowledge of various computer applications including word processing and presentation software.
• Thorough knowledge of fish and wildlife conservation principles and hunting/fishing ethics.

Nice-to-haves
