About the position

As a Communications Specialist II - Graphic Design at Mecklenburg County, you will be an integral part of our Creative team, dedicated to enhancing our internal and external marketing strategies through innovative graphic design and visual branding. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about visual storytelling and have a strong commitment to community service and diversity. You will be responsible for understanding the unique needs of various departments and translating those needs into strategic visual communications that resonate with our audience. Your role will involve developing a wide range of creative assets for Mecklenburg County campaigns, including illustrations, print materials, photos, static and animated graphics, videos, and content for digital platforms, emails, and social media. You will actively participate in brainstorming sessions, collaborating with other creatives and team members to ensure a cohesive customer journey. Additionally, you will create and maintain internal tools such as directories, stationery, corporate documents, and templates, ensuring that all creative work aligns with our brand style guidelines across all platforms. In this position, you will also coordinate with vendors to produce organizational merchandise and office stationery, assist in creative presentations, and communicate effective creative solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong professional portfolio, a solid understanding of design history and theory, and the ability to articulate design ideas through both professional practice and personal research. Responsibilities

  • Understand the needs of our departments and support their goals through strategic visual communications.
  • Develop creative assets for Mecklenburg County campaigns, including illustrations, print materials, photos, static and animated graphics, videos, digital, email, and social media content.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and support the team with creative tasks.
  • Collaborate with other creatives and team members to ensure the coherence of the customer's journey.
  • Create, maintain, and update internal tools such as directories, stationery, corporate documents, and templates.
  • Assist in creative presentations and communicate creative solutions.
  • Coordinate with vendors to produce organization merchandise, swag, and office stationery.
  • Ensure all creative work aligns with brand style guidelines across all platforms.

Requirements

  • Two years of public relations, communications, or related experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communication or related field.
  • Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of graphic fundamentals, layouts, typography, print, and web standard processes.
  • Portfolio of creative work, preferably highlighting campaigns; personal projects with well thought-out storytelling.
  • Experience with both print and digital media.
  • Proficient in proofreading/reviewing content.
