About The Position

The Communication Systems Specialist (Audio-Visual and IP Video Specialist) at Napa County is responsible for managing and operating the County's video security infrastructure, network connectivity, and live broadcast production equipment. This role supports the delivery of IP-based connectivity services to various County departments and assists in maintaining emergency communication systems. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise in video production and networking, ensuring optimal system performance and security.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in electronics or communications technology or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of journey-level experience in the installation, maintenance, or repair of communications and electronic equipment (for Communication Specialist I).
  • Four years of experience performing network and systems support, installation, maintenance, and repair of communications and electronic equipment (for Communication Specialist II).
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • General Radiotelephone Operator's License (GROL) must be obtained within one year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in environments requiring strict surveillance and security protocols.
  • Familiarity with both analog and IP-based systems.
  • CCENT or CCNA certification, CompTIA A+, or CompTIA Network+.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, configure, and troubleshoot broadcast television and related AV systems, including media control units, cameras, and microphones.
  • Set up, maintain, and manage video security systems, including IP cameras, DVR/NVRs, and remote monitoring solutions.
  • Provide basic networking support, including IP camera configuration, cabling, and resolving connectivity issues related to surveillance and AV equipment.
  • Install and maintain various wireless networking equipment including long-range point-to-point devices and associated network gear.
  • Regularly monitor the performance of all systems and conduct preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain the integrity and security of all surveillance systems, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant regulations.
  • Keep accurate records of installations, configurations, and troubleshooting activities.
