About the position

The Communication Technician role at TEKsystems involves working with electrical and cabling systems in a data center environment. The position is targeted towards electrical and cabling trade students, focusing on the installation and management of various cabling and electrical components. The role requires hands-on skills in wiring, equipment installation, and adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Layout and install wireway, buss duct, cable tray, switches, receptacles, and other devices.
• Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optics, and hardware.
• Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cables as required.
• Complete all IDC connections (e.g., terminating 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
• Pull wire and/or oversee and direct conduit installations and wire pulling.
• Operate tools/equipment that typically require the use of two hands (examples: cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jackhammers).

Requirements

• Knowledge of Cat5 and Cat6 cabling
• Experience with copper and fiber optic cables
• Expertise in rack and stack
• Ability to read and work with blueprints
• Proficient in structured cabling and cable installation
• OSHA 10 certification
