About the position

The Communications and Marketing Manager will lead and manage the communications and marketing activities for the Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources. This role involves strategic multimedia communications, public relations, marketing campaigns, sponsorship development, outreach, event planning, and content creation. The position is critical for keeping agency leadership informed and mitigating potential negative impacts on the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Communications and Marketing Section, including assigning work and appraising performance.
  • Create a biennial budget request and monitor expenditures.
  • Develop opportunities for outside funding, grants, or sponsorships.
  • Lead the development of communications and marketing goals and strategies.
  • Ensure cohesive and effective agency communications and marketing efforts.
  • Establish brand and content standards across all platforms.
  • Oversee the design and development of marketing materials.
  • Evaluate communications and marketing efforts for effectiveness.
  • Maintain professional credibility as a subject matter expert in communications and marketing.
  • Assist agency staff with their marketing efforts.
  • Act as a primary representative of the agency to the public and stakeholders.
  • Develop positive relationships with the media and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor media content and alert leadership to developments.
  • Serve as the agency's Public Information Officer and primary contact for media inquiries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations or related field.
  • 1-2 years of progressive work experience in Public Relations, or 4-6 years of relevant experience without a degree.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to represent the agency effectively to the public and media.
  • Knowledge of marketing, branding, and design best practices.
  • Ability to conduct outreach with the public and stakeholders.
  • Skilled in leadership and managing a small team.
