About the position

The Communications and Marketing Manager at Tulane University is responsible for overseeing all marketing and communications activities for the Tulane School of Science & Engineering (SSE). This role requires a blend of excellent writing and graphic design skills, as the manager will collaborate closely with school leadership to ensure that all communications are consistent with the branding of the school, its centers, and the university as a whole. The manager will direct the creation and management of all digital and physical publications, including the SSE and affiliate websites, as well as social media platforms. In addition to managing communications, the position involves analyzing the effectiveness of the school's marketing and communications strategies. The manager will identify new opportunities for improvement and develop plans to enhance the school's outreach efforts. This includes working with other divisions within Tulane University, such as alumni relations, to ensure that SSE's marketing initiatives contribute to revenue growth through philanthropic efforts, industry partnerships, and enhancing the school's visibility among prospective students and faculty. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of business and marketing processes, along with excellent written communication and editorial skills. They should demonstrate project management capabilities and have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in computer applications relevant to the role, particularly within the Adobe Creative Suite, is essential, as is knowledge of digital marketing strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all marketing and communications activities for the Tulane School of Science & Engineering (SSE).
  • Ensure all communications align with school, center, and university branding.
  • Direct the management and creation of all digital and physical publications and documents.
  • Oversee the SSE and affiliate websites and social media channels.
  • Analyze the performance of marketing and communications efforts and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other Tulane University divisions, such as alumni relations, to drive revenue through marketing initiatives.
  • Enhance the SSE profile among peer organizations and prospective students and faculty.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, or a closely related field.
  • 5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related area.
  • Excellent written communication and editorial skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly in Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, and/or Illustrator.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing and supporting strategies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in marketing and/or communications in higher education or the science & engineering industry.
  • Experience coordinating newsletters and content placement in print and online publications.
  • Supervisory experience.
