About the position

The Communications and Marketing Specialist is a key role within the Yolo County Transportation District, responsible for managing a wide range of communications, outreach, and promotional activities. This position involves planning and implementing agency-wide communications strategies, advertising campaigns, and public information programs. The specialist will create engaging content for various platforms, build relationships with community partners, and support the transit operations and planning departments in their communication efforts. This role is essential for enhancing the visibility and usage of transit services in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the development and implementation of the District's communication and marketing strategies, campaigns and promotions.
  • Designs and develops print materials and publications by researching and analyzing materials and options.
  • Researches and coordinates advertising media placement and recommends ad buys.
  • Implements specific communications and marketing strategies to raise awareness and use of transit by key target audiences.
  • Develops, coordinates, and enhances communication relationships with regional agencies, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Reviews current District communications practices and policies, researches and analyzes areas for improvement, and provides recommendations to Executive Director.
  • Develops and maintains up-to-date website content and ensures compliance with relevant statutes and policies.
  • Develops timely and engaging social media content to drive engagement and grow audience.
  • Plans and implements the District's in-person outreach events.
  • Develops media kits and collateral for use by partners.
  • Produces and updates transit service information materials as requested by the Transit Operations Department.
  • Works with various departments to develop and implement project-specific communications and outreach strategies.
  • Prepares monthly email newsletters and writes news releases to advance agency-wide priorities.
  • Responds to media inquiries and supports District team members in public communications.
  • Leads development and monitoring of annual budget and workplan for marketing and communications projects.
  • Oversees third-party vendor contracts and ensures compliance with budget.
  • Recruits, trains and supervises part-time interns.
  • Purchases and maintains inventory of marketing material and equipment.

Requirements

  • At least three (3) years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, community relations or a closely-related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, business administration or a closely-related field.
