About the position

The Communications Center Manager for the Public Safety Dispatch Center at UC Health is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the operations of a state-of-the-art communication facility. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations, the Communications Center Manager will also handle fiscal responsibilities, including budget development, expenditure approvals, and contract negotiations. This role requires close collaboration with public safety agencies to assess their service needs, plan hardware and personnel requirements, and evaluate the effectiveness of existing systems. The manager will be expected to coordinate new services and enhancements to current offerings, ensuring that the center remains responsive to the evolving demands of public safety communications. The position also involves active participation in meetings and committees, where the manager will disseminate information and stay informed about the latest technological advancements in the field. Regular attendance and engagement in special projects as assigned are essential components of this role, contributing to the overall mission of UC Health to provide exceptional care and support to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Manages Communications Center operations including public safety communications (911), information technology initiatives, and telecommunications initiatives.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and implements necessary changes to ensure quality and reliability of services.
  • Plans telephone, radio system, and CAD systems requirements to meet defined current and future needs.
  • Assists with planning and monitoring of fiscal activities, including budget development and expenditure approvals.
  • Negotiates contracts and advises personnel regarding bids for communication equipment.
  • Maintains contact with public safety agencies to determine service needs and coordinates new or enhanced services.
  • Conducts and attends meetings, serves on committees, and disseminates information regarding current technology and programming issues.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates degree preferred in Business Administration, Computer Technology, Criminal Justice, or other applicable fields.
  • APCO certification within 1 year of employment.
