About the position

The Communications Consultant will be responsible for developing promotional materials and social media assets to support the Project aimed at enhancing understanding of the BBNJ Agreement. This role involves creating engaging content tailored for various social media platforms to promote project activities, particularly in Caribbean SIDS and African coastal states. The consultant will work closely with the Office of Legal Affairs and will report to a Legal Officer, ensuring that all outputs are copyright and royalty-free, and that all necessary waivers and releases are obtained.

Responsibilities

• Develop a comprehensive content plan for social media assets.
• Create a concept and script for video reels related to the Project activities.
• Produce 6 visually engaging carousel posts for LinkedIn, X, and Instagram, highlighting specific project activities and impacts.
• Create a 1.5-minute video reel covering Project activities in Caribbean SIDS.
• Create a 1.5-minute video reel covering Project activities in States on the Atlantic Coast of Africa.
• Ensure all outputs are copyright and royalty-free, and obtain necessary waivers and releases.

Requirements

• Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communications, journalism, graphic design, ocean affairs, sustainable development, environment or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional practice in communications.
• Experience in developing communication products related to ocean affairs, environmental issues, and/or sustainable development.
• Ability to handle diplomatically sensitive subjects and situations with target audiences.

• Knowledge of theories, concepts, and approaches relevant to effective media communication and engagement.
• Strategic and creative mindset.
• Specific examples of previous projects demonstrating expertise in creating social media content related to ocean affairs or sustainable development.
