About the position

The Communications Director for the Division of Social Sciences at UCLA is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications plans to promote the division's educational and research activities. This role involves collaboration with various departments and stakeholders to enhance awareness of the division's initiatives, achievements, and outreach programs. The Director will manage the division's communication channels, including the website and social media, while also addressing queries and crises that may arise.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive long and short-term strategic communications plans for the Division of Social Sciences.
  • Collaborate with administrative members, faculty, and staff to raise awareness of the division's research, teaching, and outreach programs.
  • Manage the division's webpage, social media accounts, and promotional assets across departments and research centers.
  • Work with College Communications and Social Sciences Development to highlight philanthropic achievements.
  • Maintain knowledge of faculty research, student activities, and departmental events to effectively communicate updates.
  • Respond to queries and crises affecting the Social Sciences at UCLA in collaboration with the Dean and other communication directors.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in developing communications strategies for large organizations, preferably in higher education or the Social Sciences.
  • Superior writing skills to compose and edit correspondence and reports.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills to engage a diverse audience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and meet shared goals.
  • Ability to work effectively under heavy workloads and deadlines.
  • Skill in working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in software such as Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Experience with content management systems like WordPress and proficiency in Adobe products such as Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Experience in event planning and educational program planning.
  • Ability to identify problems and propose appropriate solutions.
