About the position

The Communications Director at University United Methodist Church is responsible for leading the design, marketing, and communication efforts for various church events, projects, and publications. This role involves overseeing both internal and external communications to enhance the church's mission and brand, while also facilitating cross-communication among church staff, ministries, and the community. The position requires a hands-on approach to graphic design, website management, and public relations, ensuring that all communications align with the church's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, marketing, and communication efforts for church events and publications.
  • Oversee internal and external communications to foster the church's mission and improve its brand.
  • Manage graphic design and production of church-wide collateral materials and websites.
  • Enable cross-communication between ministers, staff, ministries, and the congregation.
  • Analyze creative processes and technologies for improvement.
  • Communicate creative processes and style guidelines to staff and leadership.
  • Support the Church Office and ensure it operates positively for staff and guests.
  • Respond to inquiries through email, website, and phone.
  • Maintain and update church websites.
  • Coordinate public relations with external media outlets.
  • Utilize social media to communicate UUMC's message effectively.
  • Assist with game day parking information and signage.
  • Create bulletins and promotional materials for special events.
  • Help church members with their communication needs.
  • Organize online sign-ups for events.
  • Coordinate with Preschool & After School for cross-promotional communications.
  • Prepare and send newsletters bi-weekly and Sunday bulletins weekly.
  • Ensure all on-campus communications are up to date.
  • Set live stream graphics for Sunday services.
  • Update church materials and ensure accurate information in the Planning Center Church Center App.
  • Conduct a yearly website audit and refresh brand standards twice a year.
  • Prepare the communications budget and proposal.
  • Plan and order promotional gifts for guest packets.
  • Create visuals for annual stewardship campaigns.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in communications or a related field.
  • Strong branding and social media marketing skills.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Graphic design experience.
  • Public relations knowledge.
  • Budgeting skills.
  • Excellent proofreading and editing abilities.
  • Strong communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in church communications or non-profit organizations.
  • Familiarity with community engagement strategies.
  • Knowledge of event planning and coordination.
