About the position

The Communications Dispatcher I at Fitchburg State University is responsible for managing all communications within the University Police dispatch area, including telephone and radio frequency communications. This role involves monitoring alarms and surveillance equipment, assisting the public with information and directions, and performing various clerical duties as required. The dispatcher plays a critical role in ensuring safety and security on campus by responding to emergency situations and providing necessary support to law enforcement personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Handle requests via walk-in, telephone, callbox, cellular, and radio to the University Police Station.
  • Monitor all emergency alarms on campus, including intrusion, panic, emergency call box, and fire.
  • Utilize surveillance camera systems and assist investigators with recorded video.
  • Utilize Onguard access system software and remotely control building access.
  • Utilize Computer Aided Dispatch system and accurately document all interactions with the public.
  • Transmit and receive information via two-way radio, cellular telephone, radio scanner, Internet, and Local Area Networks.
  • Provide basic pre-arrival instructions to those in need of medical assistance.
  • Aid Shift Supervisors to bring closure to all open cases as directed.
  • Complete clerical assignments as needed and keep a clean and organized work area.

  • Ability to operate or be trained to operate all related equipment.
