The Encyclopedia of Alabama (EOA) is seeking a Communications Editor to support all aspects of editorial development and production for the State of Alabama's official online encyclopedia. This position is crucial in ensuring that the content is accurate, engaging, and reflective of Alabama's rich history and culture. The Communications Editor will be responsible for editing submissions for content and style, ensuring that all materials meet the high standards expected by the EOA. This role involves collaborating with various contributors, authors, and external partners to produce high-quality publications that serve the public and educational needs of the state. In addition to editing, the Communications Editor will research, write, and edit external stories, articles, newsletters, advertisements, invitations, and news releases for various publications and media outlets. The position requires planning, designing, and coordinating the layout of publications and other materials, working closely with graphic designers and illustrators to determine the best communication methods. The editor may also coordinate production and printing work with outside vendors, which includes obtaining estimates, bids, and quotes. Furthermore, the role may involve maintaining and updating the department's website and creating and managing budgets and reports related to the publications. This is a limited-term position, and the successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to enhancing the public's understanding of Alabama's history, culture, and contributions.
