About the position

The Communications Manager at Wellmark, Inc. will lead the development and implementation of communication strategies that enhance awareness and understanding of Wellmark's initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes in Iowa and South Dakota. This role involves crafting narratives that effectively communicate the organization's efforts in addressing Social Drivers of Health (SDOH) and engaging various stakeholders through diverse communication channels.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and convey Wellmark's HEAI strategy and initiatives through clear educational and presentation materials.
  • Ensure clear communication of The Wellmark Foundation activities and seek external counsel when necessary.
  • Research and collaborate with subject matter experts to enhance knowledge on community health improvement, health equity, and rural health.
  • Coordinate communication efforts across the enterprise for consistent messaging to employees and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate discussions to develop materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Consult with Marketing and Corporate Communications to integrate HEAI communications into organizational channels.
  • Coordinate execution and timely delivery of HEAI-related work, maintaining detailed project documentation.
  • Identify indicators to measure success of communication strategies and track metrics for leadership.
  • Develop an annual report on the HEAI Strategy for stakeholders, ensuring aligned distribution timing.
  • Proofread and edit all content in accordance with Wellmark brand guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, mass communications, marketing communications, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of corporate communications experience, including partnership with senior leadership.
  • Excellent writing and content creation skills in alignment with AP Style.
  • Experience in creating communications plans with defined benchmarks and results reporting.
  • Strong communication, writing, and editing skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to produce engaging content for varying audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • 7+ years of internal communications experience, including serving as a partner for senior leadership.
  • Experience in gathering and analyzing data to create performance impact reports.
  • Strong interpersonal and consulting skills.
