About the position

The Communications Manager at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis will be responsible for shaping and maintaining the institutional brand voice through various marketing and public relations efforts. This role involves copywriting, proofreading, project management, and executing an annual media buy to enhance brand awareness and drive ticket sales. The ideal candidate will possess strong writing skills, attention to detail, and a passion for project management.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary copywriter, editor, and proofreader for all marketing and public relations collateral.
  • Help develop compelling messaging and talking points for marketing campaigns.
  • Project manage the internal routing and feedback for copywriting projects across multiple departments.
  • Develop effective copy for show marketing descriptions annually.
  • Assist in drafting, routing, and revising press releases and media alerts.
  • Craft articles for the organization's blog in alignment with SEO recommendations.
  • Support written content creation for marketing emails and newsletters.
  • Provide meticulous proofreading for all external communications and publications.
  • Lead the planning and execution of the annual program book.
  • Track the progress of program ad sales and manage advertising inventory.
  • Prepare and implement an annual media buy across local and national media.
  • Cultivate relationships with local ad reps and track advertising KPIs.
  • Manage expenditures and ROI across all advertising efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing or related field.
  • Highly skilled writer with meticulous proofreading abilities.
  • Deeply organized with extreme attention to detail.
  • Experience in crafting editorial narratives.
  • Familiarity with task management software (e.g., Asana) preferred.
  • Experience managing budgets preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Experience in theater or arts organizations.
