About the position

The position of Communications Specialist at the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) at the University of Texas at Dallas is a pivotal role that involves managing both internal and external communications. The Communications Specialist will develop and write marketing communications materials such as brochures, advertisements, email campaigns, and digital content. The role demands a proactive approach to communication, with an emphasis on engaging the university community and the public through effective storytelling and information dissemination. Responsibilities

  • Manage internal and external communications for the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
  • Develop and write marketing communications materials including brochures, advertisements, email campaigns, and digital content.
  • Collaborate with NSM departments, centers, and programs to ensure cohesive messaging and branding.
  • Engage in project management for communication initiatives, overseeing projects from conception to completion.
  • Write in a style and tone suited to target audiences, ensuring clarity and effectiveness in messaging.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communication, English, or marketing.
  • Five to seven years of experience in communications or journalism, with an equivalence of education and/or experience acceptable.
  • Strong copy-writing skills and an excellent command of grammar and proofreading.

Nice-to-haves

  • 8-10 years of experience in branding, communications, marketing, advertising, or donor stewardship.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Previous work experience in a higher education environment or with clients targeting the 15-25 year-old demographic.
