About the position
The Communications Officer at the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office is responsible for processing emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching law enforcement and emergency units, and maintaining communication with mobile units. This role requires effective communication skills and the ability to work in a high-stress environment while adhering to established procedures and priorities.
Responsibilities
- Process emergency and non-emergency calls received via radio and telephone.
- Dispatch law enforcement and emergency units in response to requests for service.
- Provide confidential criminal history data through a computer system.
- Maintain the status and location of mobile units and personnel.
- Record details of calls, dispatches, and messages.
- Relay information and messages to and from emergency sites and law enforcement agencies.
- Scan status charts and computer screens to determine available emergency units for dispatch.
- Enter, update, and retrieve information from teletype networks and computerized data systems.
- Maintain access to and security of highly sensitive materials.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
- Ability to pass an online exam.
