About the position

The University of Texas at Austin's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a Communications Program Coordinator to support the Texas Child Mental Health programs. This role is crucial in executing and delivering communications strategies that enhance awareness and impact of initiatives aimed at improving mental health access and care for children and adolescents in Central Texas. The position is expected to continue until August 31, 2025, with the possibility of renewal based on funding availability, work performance, and progress toward goals. The Communications Program Coordinator will coordinate various projects related to the Child and Perinatal Psychiatric Access Networks (CPAN/PeriPAN) and Texas Child Health Access through Telemedicine (TCHATT), among other initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing engaging and persuasive written content that aligns with legislative, institutional, and program goals. This content will be disseminated through various channels, including digital marketing tools, newsletters, and social media, targeting a diverse audience that includes physicians, school administrators, community mental health providers, and families. In addition to content creation, the coordinator will collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure that technical information is accessible to broad audiences. The role requires strong project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with a communications team, medical providers, and program administrators. The position will be primarily on-campus, with some remote work expected, necessitating reliable internet access and a suitable workspace free from distractions. Candidates will be required to submit samples of their previous work, demonstrating their writing and editing capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engaging and persuasive written content focusing on mental health access programs.
  • Create content in various formats including slide decks, flyers, brochures, reports, newsletters, and social media posts.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to produce easily understandable technical content.
  • Disseminate content through digital marketing tools and ensure it reaches specific audiences.
  • Edit and proofread materials for accuracy and adherence to branding guidelines.
  • Conduct advanced planning and development of communication materials for presentations and events.
  • Collaborate with the outreach team to produce necessary communication collateral for events.
  • Prepare materials and talking points for clinicians and leadership for key interactions.
  • Assist with internal communications such as employee newsletters and updates.
  • Coordinate communications initiatives and events across the School and Department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least three years of professional experience in communications or related field, or a Master's degree and one year of experience.
  • Excellent writing, communication, design, and proofreading skills.
  • Experience executing comprehensive communications plans and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cross-institutional branding guidelines and website development.
  • Experience in communicating complex information to broad audiences, including high-profile stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with project management platforms like Smartsheet or Kanbanchi.
  • Knowledge of national, state, and local mental health policy.
  • Experience with tools such as Canva, Adobe InDesign, MailChimp, Salesforce, and WordPress.
