About the position

The Communications and Research Specialist will support the Deputy Chief Operating Officer by conducting research, analyzing data, and communicating findings effectively. This role involves preparing executive communications, managing internal and external communications, and coordinating various communication efforts. The Specialist will also handle confidential information, prepare briefing materials, and support operational initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough research and analyze data to support decision-making.
  • Prepare executive communication materials, including briefing documents and presentations.
  • Manage internal and external communications to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Monitor and review the effectiveness of communication strategies and make adjustments as needed.
  • Synthesize complex materials into executive summaries for easy understanding.
  • Process and manage confidential and time-sensitive information and documents.
  • Update stakeholder mailing lists and manage regular office correspondences.
  • Support CUNY Board-related matters by developing materials and coordinating communications.
  • Respond to press inquiries and manage internal community requests.
  • Coordinate efforts between departments, colleges, and external partners.
  • Assist in managing daily office operations to enhance organizational effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years of related experience required.
  • Experience supporting a senior-level executive in administrative and operational roles.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, research, evaluation, and writing skills.
  • Ability to create and deliver high-quality content across various channels.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in standard office software and ability to learn new programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education or a similar environment.
  • Familiarity with CUNY policies and procedures.
