About the position

The Communications Specialist-Content Writer at Hopelink is responsible for supporting brand communications through storytelling and editorial production. This role involves crafting various written materials, including press releases, newsletters, and digital content, to advance the agency's strategic priorities and engage the community. The position requires collaboration with different teams to identify content opportunities and ensure that all communications align with Hopelink's mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Support brand communications through storytelling and editorial production.
• Craft news-in-briefs, press releases, Q&As, feature profiles, and long-form content.
• Develop brand digital and print publications, including newsletters and annual reports.
• Cultivate earned media opportunities by supporting public and media relations.
• Identify news updates and content opportunities for various audiences.
• Partner with the Marketing Manager to develop a cross-platform editorial calendar.
• Serve as a reporter by identifying subject matter experts and storytelling opportunities.
• Oversee the production of the monthly donor newsletter and collaborate with Development staff.
• Provide copy editing consultation for Hopelink staff members.
• Ensure published content meets brand and style guidelines, including EDI and TIA standards.

Requirements

• Four or more years of work experience in journalism, marketing, communications, copywriting, and/or media relations.
• Bachelor's or associate degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, political science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in nonprofit or government communications, journalism, public relations, and/or public policy.
• Superb writing skills with the ability to pivot tonally for different audiences and craft compelling story arcs.
• Demonstrable experience creating content across various mediums, including newsletters, website copy, and press releases.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with community engagement and relationship building.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches in communications.
