About the position

ECS is seeking a Communications Specialist (Graphic Designer) to join their team in Bethesda, MD. This role focuses on creating captivating designs for various digital and print projects, collaborating with other professionals, and ensuring adherence to branding guidelines. The position is currently remote due to COVID-19, with potential future in-person attendance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Creating print and multimedia presentations as requested, using creative processes and tools to generate graphics and displays.
  • Transforming spoken or written descriptions into visual representations without existing pictures or models.
  • Producing creative graphic design work to convey intended messages through illustrations, websites, posters, and signage.
  • Coordinating with the Program Manager to develop original designs following NIH-approved branding guidelines.
  • Using photography and video capture, graphic and video editing software, and digital design tools.
  • Designing and developing 508 compliant promotional materials.
  • Receiving and assessing requests for publicity from managers and publicists, determining appropriate graphics and layout.
  • Providing graphic support to Workshop Support activities.
  • Designing artwork for specific target audiences for Scientific and Medical events.
  • Making recommendations on effective advertising and publicity materials.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of all advertising and publicity materials.
  • Prioritizing work requests and maintaining records of services provided.

Requirements

  • Experience in marketing/advertising principles and practices.
  • Experience as a commercial or government artist or illustrator, demonstrating design and layout skills using graphic design software.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Knowledge of Federal 508 compliance is highly desirable.
  • Experience with WordPress, CSS, and HTML is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Strong customer service skills.
