About the position

The Communications Specialist position at Austin Community College District is a part-time role focused on supporting a variety of communications and marketing initiatives within the Office of College Relations & Marketing. The specialist will assist in creating and distributing diverse content, including blogs, infographics, videos, and press releases, to engage the community and promote college programs effectively. In this position, the Communications Specialist will track social media engagement to identify successful ideas and campaigns that can be scaled for broader impact. The role also involves writing and editing news communications, which includes crafting content for social media platforms, media advisories, news releases, feature stories, and other storytelling opportunities that highlight the college's achievements and initiatives. Additionally, the specialist will support the Office of College Relations & Marketing by scheduling photography sessions in alignment with marketing goals and will assist the team at live and online events. The position requires a strong understanding of departmental processes and procedures, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and establish effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in a range of communications and marketing initiatives within the Office of College Relations & Marketing.
  • Create and distribute content such as blogs, infographics, videos, and press releases as needed.
  • Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability.
  • Write and edit news communications, including content for social media platforms, media advisories, news releases, feature stories, and publications.
  • Support the Office of College Relations & Marketing in scheduling photography sessions in alignment with marketing and college goals.
  • Assist the team at live and online events.
  • Review and process documents, maintain databases, and provide reports as required.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications and student information and database systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
