About the position

As a Communications Specialist I at Cisco, you will embark on a dynamic career path within Global Communications, where you will have the opportunity to enhance your communication skills in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. This role is designed for early-career professionals, allowing you to identify business issues and collaborate with intern cohorts and Cisco leadership to build impactful project plans. You will partner with experienced mentors and work alongside Cisco Global Communications leaders in various areas, including Corporate Communications, Analyst Relations, Operations, Public Relations, Strategic Execution, Digital Communications, and Employee Communications. In this position, you will support functional organizations by creating programs, preparing documents and presentations, developing key themes, and identifying gaps and opportunities for engagement. You will assist in the planning and execution of campaigns, events, or programs, while also developing internal and external communications. Your role will involve collaborating with various organizations within Cisco and external agencies, utilizing research to support decision-making processes. You will have the chance to expand your communication knowledge through a variety of development opportunities, including participation in the Communications Rotational Program for university new hires. This program includes monthly meetings with executives and mentorship opportunities, allowing you to grow and refine your skills in a supportive environment. As a strategic communicator, you will manage the entire spectrum of communication challenges, from concept to execution, ensuring that your messages resonate with diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance and expand communications skills in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Support functional organizations to create programs, prepare documents and presentations, and develop key themes.
  • Identify gaps, opportunities, and channels for engagement, supporting initiatives throughout the organization.
  • Develop internal and external communications, collaborating with organizations and agencies.
  • Use research to support decision-making and assist in planning and executing campaigns, events, or programs.
  • Navigate and demonstrate insights to identify problems in a complex, global organization.
  • Participate in the Communications Rotational Program, including monthly meetings with executives and mentorship.

Requirements

  • Graduate or upcoming graduate of a certification program from a Boot Camp, Apprenticeship, Community College, or 4-Year University.
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience or recent graduate in Communications or a related program.
  • Extensive experience in public relations, digital communications, event planning, and/or multimedia content creation, with a portfolio of successful projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft clear, compelling, and engaging content for various channels, including creative writing and technical documentation.
  • Proven track record of initiating and leading projects, showcasing entrepreneurial spirit and initiative.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities through roles in student organizations or significant involvement in extracurricular activities.
  • Exceptional spelling and grammar skills, ensuring high-quality and error-free content.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong presentation skills to effectively communicate ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience as a Campus Ambassador, showcasing strong communication and networking skills.
  • Social media expertise or equivalent professional experience in managing social media campaigns.
  • Familiarity with UI/UX principles to enhance digital communications.
