About the position

The Communications Specialist - Public Works is responsible for managing both internal and external communications for the Carver County Public Works Division, which encompasses Parks and Recreation and County Highways. This role involves assisting with county-wide communication initiatives and implementing strategic communication plans under the supervision of the Chief Communications Officer. The position requires a diverse skill set to create and support various communication materials, including press releases, social media content, and digital media, while also providing guidance on communications best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate internal and external communications for the Public Works Division.
  • Assist in the implementation of strategic communication plans.
  • Draft, edit, design, and proofread various communication materials including news releases, speeches, and social media content.
  • Utilize videography, photography, and graphics for storytelling purposes.
  • Maintain and publish digital media content, tracking progress and implementing new ideas.
  • Develop performance metrics for digital communications by analyzing and compiling data.
  • Provide communications assistance to staff and supervise communications best practices.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of communication strategies and practices.
  • Experience in drafting and editing communication materials.
  • Proficiency in digital media content creation and management.
  • Ability to analyze data and develop performance metrics.
