The Communications Specialist supports the execution of OPTAVIA's Field communication strategy through the development of key communications for OPTAVIA coaches and clients through a variety of channels, including email, SMS, digital newsletters, talk tracks, and more. They ensure all materials reflect the distinct OPTAVIA brand and execute the proper tone, language, and overall messages. This role is responsible for drafting and executing communications plans while partnering with external vendors as well as cross-functional teams across the organization, like the Events, Creative, Digital Products, Enterprise teams, and others. They will assist with the workflow of projects, moving multiple pieces seamlessly to completion with the ability to effectively partner with all team members. This position requires excellent writing and proofreading skills, keen attention to detail in writing and our established processes in a fast-paced environment with a multitude of critical, overlapping projects with tight deadlines. The Communications Specialist has a passion for storytelling and increasing brand awareness, affinity, and excitement around the mission-driven work of OPTAVIA.

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust communications plans, draft copy, and work with creative department to develop supporting graphics, ensuring that all materials contain compliant, on-brand language and are developed, approved, and distributed according to an appropriate timeline and protocols.
  • Maintain strong working relationships and work cross-functionally with Field Marketing, Field Alignment, Events, Recognition, Training, and more in addition to any external vendors.
  • Assist with day-to-day editing and proofreading of content for all OPTAVIA communications and marketing materials.
  • Schedule, track, and share updates on performance of communications campaigns.
  • Understand, follow, and support internal/external processes and procedures in areas such as communications and creative copy writing and review.
  • Offer administrative support.
  • Participate in local meetings and/or travel to all events, as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication (Journalism, Public Relations, Broadcast, Advertising) English, Marketing, preferred OR related work experience.
  • 2-4 years' experience in Mass Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or Events-related field.
  • Knowledge of traditional marketing disciplines and communication styles, plus new trends such as social media, digital, and event marketing.
  • Computer skills/programs in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Attention to detail and ability to proactively provide solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong knowledge of English language/grammar, AP style.
  • Demonstrated writing ability in various genres - promotional, informational, technical, and motivational.
  • Ability to process large quantities of information and translate to appropriate audiences.
  • Excellent reading comprehension and editorial skills.
  • Must be able to interact with all levels, both internally and externally, proving excellent customer service and the ability to establish partnerships.
  • Must be process-driven.
  • Knowledge of Health & Wellness and/or Direct Sales industries a plus.
  • Strong copywriting and editing skills as well as general ability to communicate in a strong, positive, and effective manner (written, verbally, and non-verbally).
  • Effectively manage project timelines, including coordinating interdepartmental efforts on projects and initiatives.
  • Actively participate in Field Support/Events/Marketing/Communication/Training meetings.
  • Solve problems creatively.

  • Establish and maintain effective internal and external relationships.
