About the position

The University of North Texas, College of Music, is seeking a Communications Specialist to join our dynamic team. This full-time position is pivotal in creating and disseminating digital concert programs and marketing events through various digital platforms, including social media. The Communications Specialist will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility of our events and ensuring that our audience has easy access to concert information. This role requires regular interaction with both internal and external stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of providing exceptional customer service. In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the submission process for program information, ensuring that all completed programs are publicly posted on appropriate digital platforms. Additionally, the Communications Specialist will create, coordinate, and distribute content to support events across digital platforms such as websites, digital newsletters, and social media. The role also involves maintaining and updating the College of Music websites, troubleshooting issues, and providing general assistance while adhering to the College's brand strategy and communication guidelines. The ideal candidate will possess strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to conceptualize and create unique content tailored for various media formats. They should be adept at working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and managing multiple tasks while maintaining effective working relationships. Knowledge of web-based content management, CSS, HTML, and ADA compliance is essential, as is the ability to produce website prototypes and ensure the accuracy and functionality of web content before publication. Responsibilities

  • Manage the submission process for concert program information and ensure public posting on digital platforms.
  • Create, coordinate, and distribute content for events across digital platforms such as websites, newsletters, and social media.
  • Maintain, update, and troubleshoot College of Music websites, ensuring adherence to brand strategy and communication guidelines.
  • Participate in special projects and events as requested, fostering effective communication and professional relations with coworkers and clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Two years of experience in writing and/or editing publications, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Ability to conceptualize, write, and edit content for university audiences.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and writing styles (AP and Chicago Manual).
  • Experience with content management, editing software, CSS, HTML, and cross-browser testing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in music or experience with musical genres represented in the College's curriculum.
  • Proficient in text editing and music historical research.
