About the position

The Communications Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the Vineyard's ministry areas by ensuring effective communication with the church body through various channels, particularly focusing on writing and social media. This position requires collaboration with the Director of Communications to develop and implement communication strategies that resonate with the community. The specialist will be responsible for planning and executing social media campaigns, creating engaging content, and tracking the success of these initiatives. Additionally, the role involves writing and editing newsletters, managing event promotions, and maintaining accurate records in the church's project management and finance systems. In the realm of social media, the Communications Specialist will plan both paid and organic campaigns across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. This includes developing a weekly content schedule, creating visually appealing posts and stories, and capturing high-quality photos and videos during church services and events. The specialist will also be tasked with writing compelling captions and analyzing the performance of social media efforts to ensure they effectively reach the target audience. The role extends to program and newsletter management, where the specialist will collaborate with the Communications Director to highlight featured events, write event descriptions, and curate photos for newsletters. Event planning and project management are also key components of this position, requiring the specialist to work closely with various ministry areas to promote upcoming events and maintain organized records of these activities. In addition to these responsibilities, the Communications Specialist will handle billing and miscellaneous tasks, such as entering receipts into finance software, monitoring the ministry's budget, and managing inventory levels. The position demands a proactive approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan social media campaigns, both paid and organic, on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook.
  • Develop a weekly schedule of upcoming content.
  • Create reels, posts and stories that effectively reach target audience.
  • Capture and edit photos and videos on a smartphone and/or camera at church services and events (Some weekends and evenings).
  • Write and edit captions for social media.
  • Track success of social media campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Director to determine featured events.
  • Write and edit event descriptions for weekly program and newsletters.
  • Select and edit photos for newsletters.
  • Collaborate with the ministry areas on upcoming events, promotions, and planning.
  • Maintain spreadsheet tracking the promotion of upcoming events.
  • Become fully trained in the Rock database to ensure accurate entry of events.
  • Write and edit event descriptions, edit photos, and maintain featured events.
  • Track & assist with projects in our project management software.
  • Participate in setting up creative installations and photo backdrops as necessary.
  • Write and edit blog posts as needed.
  • Enter receipts into finance software.
  • Help keep track of the ministry's budget to make sure it meets Finance rules.
  • Check inventory levels and order more supplies when needed.
  • Create and share all reports for the ministry area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, or Marketing preferred or commensurate experience.
  • 1-2 years of communications and/or commensurate experience preferred.
  • Professional experience with social media preferred.
  • Coachable and adaptable with good communication skills.
  • Healthy interpersonal skills and demonstrates initiative.
  • Ability to work in a team and possess critical thinking skills.
  • Strong project management and organization skills.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
