About the position

The Communications Staff Aide will work within the office of Fairfax County Dranesville District Supervisor James N. Bierman, Jr. This role is pivotal in managing a portfolio that encompasses communications, community outreach, and casework. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing a weekly events newsletter in collaboration with district office staff, managing and growing the district's social media channels, and maintaining the Dranesville District website. Additionally, the aide will work as part of a team to initiate and manage various community engagement events throughout the district, ensuring that constituents receive the necessary services on various issues. This position also serves as a liaison to county departments and state/federal agencies, assisting with the drafting of press releases, talking points, and board matters. Attendance at stakeholder meetings, which may be a mix of virtual and in-person, is also required. The ideal candidate is expected to exercise discretion and work independently, demonstrating a proactive approach to their responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Produce weekly events newsletter in coordination with District office staff.
  • Manage and grow social media channels.
  • Maintain Dranesville District website.
  • Work as part of a team to initiate and manage various community engagement events throughout the district.
  • Provide constituent services on various issues as needed and serve as the liaison to county departments and state/federal agencies.
  • Assist with drafting of press releases, talking points, and board matters.
  • Attend stakeholder meetings as needed (mix of virtual and in-person meetings).

Requirements

  • Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, political science, constituent services, event production, or similar line of work.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours, as required.
  • Completion of a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in political settings.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational and research skills.
  • Experience with newsletter software such as Constant Contact, GovDelivery, Mailchimp.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent workplace software.
