About the position

The Communities In Schools (CIS) Program Coordinator (Education Specialist IV) at the Texas Education Agency plays a pivotal role in enhancing educational outcomes for students at risk of dropping out of high school. This position is responsible for providing statewide leadership in coordinating activities associated with the CIS program, which aims to connect students with essential community and campus resources. The CIS Program Coordinator will oversee the development and implementation of program requirements and technical assistance initiatives, ensuring the growth and effectiveness of the CIS program. This includes the creation of both quantitative and qualitative metrics to assess the success of initiatives and the quality of implementation of standards and practices. In collaboration with a dedicated CIS team, which includes a Student Support Manager and a Student Mental Health Program Manager, the CIS Program Coordinator will report to the Director of Counseling, Advising, and Student Supports. This team is focused on empowering school districts to effectively plan, implement, evaluate, and provide supportive services to students. The role requires a commitment to fostering effective working relationships with various stakeholders, including CIS affiliates and internal staff, to ensure impactful state involvement in the program. The position also involves significant program management responsibilities, including writing and updating program-related documents such as grant applications and the CIS of Texas Program Manual. The Coordinator will manage project dependencies and risks, ensuring high-quality execution of deliverables. Additionally, the role includes supporting CIS affiliates by providing necessary resources and technical assistance, conducting data verification reviews, and facilitating stakeholder engagement through meetings and conferences. Responsibilities

  • Provide statewide leadership in coordinating the CIS program activities.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of CIS program requirements and technical assistance initiatives.
  • Develop both quantitative and qualitative metrics to assess the success of initiatives.
  • Collaborate with a CIS team consisting of a Student Support Manager and a Student Mental Health Program Manager.
  • Write and update program-related documents, including CIS grant applications and the CIS of Texas Program Manual.
  • Manage project dependencies and risks to ensure quality execution of project deliverables.
  • Support CIS affiliates by providing resources or technical assistance as needed.
  • Conduct data verification reviews, document reviews, and site visits to determine the needs of CIS affiliates.
  • Connect CIS affiliates to high-quality resources and programs to demonstrate positive student outcomes.
  • Build and sustain meaningful relationships with CIS affiliate administration and CIS Inc. staff.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • At least four (4) years of experience in providing or coordinating student support services.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships with various individuals and groups.
  • Ability to analyze and use data to inform work processes.
  • Effective communication skills to engage a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within appropriate timelines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical skills to predict the impact of proposed policy changes.
  • Proficient in writing, proofreading, and editing complex and technical documents.
