About the position

The Community Associate at Bronx Community Board #1 plays a vital role in addressing community needs and advocating for residents through city government. This position involves supporting the Board Officers and Committee Chairs, managing administrative tasks, and fostering relationships with community groups and organizations. The Community Associate will assist in monitoring municipal services, responding to constituent concerns, and ensuring effective outreach and communication within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Community Coordinator and District Manager in monitoring and evaluating municipal services and responding to constituent concerns.
  • Maintain the constituent complaints and services log, providing direct follow-up to ensure resolution of municipal service issues.
  • Work closely with committee chairs on routine assignments, such as applications, agendas, and reviewing meeting minutes.
  • Ensure efficient day-to-day office operations and foster strategic relationships on behalf of Bronx Community Board #1.
  • Represent Bronx Community Board #1 at events, trade shows, schools, and clubs.
  • Collect information about local demographics, trends, and needs through targeted advertising and outreach campaigns.
  • Track and manage volunteer performance and maintain accurate records of their contributions.
  • Liaise with government offices to create effective partnerships for addressing community needs.
  • Maintain an outreach database detailing contacts, partnerships, and outreach activities.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Draft targeted advertising and outreach campaigns to reach specific populations or communities.
  • Draft press releases, brochures, fliers, and newsletters to raise awareness about available services and events.
  • Lead, support, and guide team members contributing to outreach activities and events.
  • Review invoices and input/approve purchase orders in the city Financial Management System (FMS).
  • Communicate community interest issues by drafting content for the Board's monthly e-newsletter and social media.
  • Coordinate the development and content updates of the Community Board's website.
  • Prepare formal correspondence from the District Manager and the Board to various agencies and elected officials.
  • Monitor and respond to correspondence from the Board and the public, conducting necessary research and tracking key data.
  • Take minutes of selected committee and all monthly full board meetings and submit them in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all meeting notices and minutes are received, distributed, and posted on time.
  • Prepare and update board member attendance reports and other reports as assigned.
  • Maintain Community Board files and records in both paper and electronic form.
  • Attend monthly Board meetings and selected committee meetings, which are typically scheduled in the evening, as well as other occasional evening and weekend events.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community-centered activities related to the duties described.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
