About the position

The Community-Based Match Support Specialist at Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region (BBBSI) is responsible for supporting adult volunteer mentors and youth mentees, ensuring the development of strong and healthy mentoring relationships. This role involves managing a caseload, facilitating match introductions, promoting child safety, and providing ongoing support to all parties involved. The position requires occasional travel and includes evening and weekend work to accommodate the needs of the matches.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate initial virtual or in-person Match Meetings for new matches.
  • Manage a personal caseload of matches consisting of Bigs, Littles, and parents/guardians.
  • Ensure positive relationship building and child safety indicators are present in each match relationship.
  • Identify and resolve potential problems and barriers to successful match relationships.
  • Record match relationship notes in the Agency's online database system Matchforce.
  • Promote the Agency mission and vision internally and externally.
  • Determine when a match is no longer beneficial and ensure proper closure.
  • Reassess match parties for eligibility for re-engagement and rematch processes.
  • Develop skills through Agency trainings and share information with matches.
  • Facilitate and participate in Agency events and coordinate parent/guardian engagement opportunities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED with 4 years relevant experience, or Associates Degree with 2 years relevant experience, or Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum 3 years professional experience in human services.
  • Willingness to commit to a minimum of two years in the role.
  • Passion for youth development and commitment to BBBS Independence's mission and values.
  • Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish and English, preferred.
  • Ability to work with and motivate diverse groups, with preference for candidates with lived experience in diverse communities.
  • Attentive and active listening skills, organization, and flexible thinking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM/Case Management packages (Salesforce preferred).
  • Dependable access to a car and valid driver's license.
