About the position

The Community Disaster Program Manager at the American Red Cross is responsible for leading and supporting volunteer teams in disaster cycle services programming within a designated geographic area. This role involves engaging with communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters, ensuring effective collaboration with various partners and stakeholders. The manager will also oversee the development of disaster leadership volunteers and coordinate disaster relief operations, contributing to the organization's mission of humanitarian aid.

Responsibilities

  • Empower Volunteers: Lead and support a diverse volunteer team responsible for the implementation of volunteer-led disaster cycle services programming.
  • Lead the Program: Implement disaster cycle services activities within the assigned geographic area or specific functional activities within the region.
  • Mission Capacity Building: Develop and support disaster volunteers who represent the communities they serve, both culturally and linguistically.
  • Engage Community: Lead and coordinate efforts to prepare and mobilize communities and engage partners for disaster response and recovery.
  • Manage in a Matrix: Build relationships and collaborate in a matrix management environment with internal partners.
  • Know Your Communities: Act as the Red Cross disaster subject matter expert to maximize community engagement and mobilization.
  • Ready to Respond: Initiate and coordinate disaster relief operations in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience with building, mobilizing, leading and developing volunteer teams.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of collaboration with diverse groups.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
