About the position

As a Community Disaster Program Manager, you will supervise the implementation of the disaster services program in an assigned geographic area, leading and supervising a team of Disaster program staff and volunteers responsible for local preparedness, response, and recovery management. Your role will involve working closely with volunteers to ensure that the communities you serve are ready to respond to disasters. This position requires a commitment to continuous disaster response, with regional disaster employees expected to deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at least once a year. These deployments are crucial for skill building, career development, and exposure to various types of disasters. Allowances may be provided for personal circumstances and local response activities, and employees must meet all training and physical capacity requirements for deployment. In this role, you will empower volunteers by managing and supporting a team responsible for implementing volunteer-led disaster services programming throughout the assigned geographic area. You will also lead the program by supervising employees and implementing disaster cycle services activities. Your responsibilities will include developing and supporting disaster volunteers who represent the communities they serve, engaging with community partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters, and acting as the local Red Cross disaster subject matter expert. You will initiate and coordinate disaster relief operations in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations, ensuring that the Red Cross maintains a strong presence and engagement within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support an employee and volunteer team responsible for the implementation of volunteer-led disaster services programming throughout the assigned geographic area.
  • Supervise employees and implement disaster cycle services activities within the assigned geographic area or specific functional activities within the region.
  • Develop and support disaster volunteers who are the primary workforce and representative of the communities they serve.
  • Lead and coordinate efforts in the assigned geographic area to prepare and mobilize communities and engage partners for disaster response and recovery.
  • Build relationships and collaborate in a matrix management environment with internal partners, including employees and volunteers.
  • Act as the local Red Cross disaster subject matter expert within the assigned geographic area to maximize community engagement and mobilization.
  • Initiate and coordinate disaster relief operations in the assigned geographic area or functional activities in the region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience.
  • 1 year of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills to interpret program trends and develop recommendations.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of collaboration with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work outside of regular duty hours including nights and weekends.
