About the position

The Community-Engaged Design Teaching Faculty position at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a hybrid role within the Design Studies Department, focusing on teaching design and design strategy courses while fostering community and industry partnerships through the DesignConnect Initiative. This position aims to enhance student learning and address societal issues through interdisciplinary design research and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in design and design strategy courses at the undergraduate level.
  • Develop and conduct engaging lectures, workshops, and studio sessions that foster critical thinking and creative problem-solving.
  • Cultivate connections between the department and the broader community through the DesignConnect Initiative.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate project assistants and undergraduate interns engaged with the DesignConnect Initiative.
  • Offer mentorship to students in formulating career aspirations and selecting internships.
  • Contribute actively to departmental and institutional service endeavors and collaborate on interdisciplinary projects.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field (M. Arch or MFA) with at least one degree from environmental design.
  • Three years of professional design experience with a strong portfolio in community-engaged or participatory design.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain industry/community partnerships.
  • Proven excellence in teaching and student mentoring in higher education.
  • Ability to teach various design courses at the undergraduate level.
  • Current knowledge of design communication technology.
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in relevant design software.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
