About the position

The Community Engagement Consultant at American Electric Power (AEP) is responsible for coordinating and executing employee engagement programs, including volunteerism and philanthropic initiatives. This role involves managing community engagement activities across AEP's service territory and developing programs that positively impact local communities. The Consultant will work closely with various teams to enhance employee participation in giving and volunteering, ensuring effective communication and resource management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee coordination and management of enterprise-wide employee giving campaigns such as United Way and Operation Feed.
  • Serve as a liaison for employee-led peer-to-peer giving campaigns for various causes.
  • Assist in launching and expanding the volunteer program across the enterprise.
  • Develop tool kits, templates, and resources to facilitate employee engagement in volunteerism and campaigns.
  • Build and maintain an online resource library and cultivate a community of practitioners to encourage innovation and sharing of best practices.
  • Manage the volunteer incentives program to maximize employee engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Team to develop content for social media and other communication materials related to community programs.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert for the Blackbaud system Your Cause, liaising with the vendor and users.
  • Track key metrics and provide regular impact updates on community engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with AEP's employee resource groups to drive volunteerism and giving initiatives.
  • Represent the company at partner events, including nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in non-profit management, communications, community engagement, public affairs, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of philanthropic/community relations experience with not-for-profit organizations or corporate community relations.
