About the position

The part-time Community Engagement Manager (CEM) at Historic Newton is tasked with the vital role of expanding the organization's audience through effective outreach and marketing strategies. This position is crucial in coordinating a diverse calendar of public programming aimed at maximizing community impact and engagement. The CEM will work closely with Historic Newton's vision of fostering a community that understands its history and recognizes the power of history in shaping the future. This involves overseeing and promoting a variety of public programs and events, as well as assisting in the planning and execution of select events to boost attendance and engagement with the museum's offerings. As the primary promoter of Historic Newton, the CEM must possess exceptional communication skills and a robust background in marketing and public relations. The role requires a collaborative spirit and the ability to form meaningful partnerships within the community. The CEM will need to exercise sound judgment in representing Historic Newton's brand and in serving the public effectively. Understanding the interests and needs of community members is essential to fostering a sense of belonging and connection to the institution. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, with a proven track record in these areas. The CEM will be responsible for promoting Historic Newton through targeted outreach efforts, email communications, marketing materials, media relations, and networking. Experience in event and program planning and implementation is a prerequisite for this role. Additionally, the CEM will contribute to various projects, including exhibits, educational initiatives, and fundraising efforts, while gaining a comprehensive understanding of Newton's history and the collections housed at the Jackson Homestead Museum and Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds. A bachelor's degree is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Expand Historic Newton's audiences through outreach and marketing.
  • Coordinate a calendar of public programming to maximize community impact.
  • Oversee and promote Historic Newton's calendar of public programming and events.
  • Plan and deliver select events to increase attendance and engagement.
  • Represent Historic Newton's brand with good judgment.
  • Foster a sense of belonging within the community.
  • Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in all initiatives.
  • Promote Historic Newton through targeted outreach and marketing collateral.
  • Manage media relations and thoughtful networking efforts.
  • Contribute to exhibit projects, educational initiatives, and fundraising efforts.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and design software (Adobe Creative Suite preferred).
  • Mastery of digital communication tools.
  • Strong project management skills, with attention to detail and big-picture goals.
  • Experience in event and program planning and implementation.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Knowledge of Newton history and the historical content of the Jackson Homestead Museum and Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds is essential.
  • Knowledge of American history is strongly preferred.
