About the position

The Community Engagement Specialist II at Montgomery College plays a vital role in connecting the college with the community through outreach and engagement initiatives. This position involves providing information and support to prospective students, businesses, and community members, facilitating enrollment processes, and promoting college programs and resources. The specialist will work closely with various stakeholders to enhance community awareness and participation in college offerings, while also managing logistical aspects of outreach events and activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide the initial point of contact for new and potential students, businesses/employers, and community members regarding college courses, programs, and services.
• Coordinate service delivery with College staff and partner organizations.
• Stay informed of College programs and resources for promotional purposes.
• Provide one-on-one advising to students on enrollment, registration, scholarship assistance, and FAFSA completion.
• Research and direct residents to proper action steps and troubleshoot issues.
• Organize logistical and administrative support for outreach events and workforce development classes.
• Conduct grassroots outreach to raise awareness of college services and assist residents in enrollment.
• Participate in outreach events such as high school nights, festivals, and college fairs.
• Visit community organizations and businesses to conduct information sessions and workshops.
• Collect and track data on strategic plan outcomes and produce monthly reports.

Requirements

• Associate degree.
• Two years of outreach or community engagement or higher education experience.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite applications and social media platforms.
• Ability to transport outreach materials up to 25 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

• Ability to translate flyers in Spanish, French, and Amharic.
• Knowledge of customer service techniques and marketing strategies.
