About the position

The Community Environmental Management Advisor (CEMA) position focuses on providing technical, managerial, financial, and infrastructure development assistance to small community environmental management systems, particularly in water and wastewater sectors. The role involves training and capacity building for community operators and management, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and facilitating communication among various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite technical assistance and training to CEMS Operators and Staff to build technical capacity.
• Assist CEMS Management and Board Members in building managerial capacity for small water and wastewater systems.
• Support CEMS Management and Board Members in enhancing financial capacity of small water and wastewater systems.
• Facilitate and deliver environmental training to CEMS Board Members, Managers, Operators, and Staff.
• Coordinate and liaise with community members, board members, funding agencies, project engineers, and attorneys for infrastructure development.

Requirements

• A current valid Water or Wastewater Operator Certification.
• A valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for travel.
• Minimum of 5 years of employment experience working with community environmental systems (water and/or wastewater).
• Ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal formats.
• Strong self-directed time management and project management skills.
• Understanding of basic financial statements and budgeting for operational and capital improvement projects.
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in work products.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with web-based databases for data-entry.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
