About the position

Planned Parenthood California Central Coast (PPCCC) is seeking a dedicated Community Health Educator to join our team in Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo. This full-time position is integral to our Community Engagement Department, focusing on the implementation of community education programs and activities aimed at promoting sexual health and life skills. The Community Health Educator will be responsible for delivering medically accurate, inclusive, and culturally appropriate sexual health education to diverse groups, particularly targeting youth in low-resource communities. This role requires fluency in both English and Spanish, with a strong preference for candidates who also speak Mixteco. The Community Health Educator will schedule and conduct educational sessions, develop and update curricula, and promote awareness of reproductive health services available at local Family PACT health centers. Additionally, the educator will participate in evaluation and data tracking activities to assess the quality and impact of programming, which is essential for grant reporting. Collaboration with the Development Department to prepare narrative sections of grant proposals and reports is also a key responsibility. The position involves attending various training sessions and community events, which may take place across the affiliate's three-county service area. This hybrid position will primarily be based at the Santa Maria Health Center, and it requires a valid California driver's license, reliable transportation, and insurance. The ideal candidate will have a background in reproductive health, sexuality, outreach, or education, and will possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. This role is vital in advancing health equity and ensuring that every individual in our communities has access to the information and resources they need to make informed health decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Implement affiliate's approved sexual health and life skills education programming in English and Spanish with fidelity.
  • Schedule and deliver medically-accurate, inclusive, and culturally appropriate sexual health education to diverse groups, focusing on youth in low-resource communities.
  • Aid in the development and updating of curricula and community resources under the guidance of the Director of Education.
  • Promote awareness of reproductive and sexual health services at local Family PACT health centers and make appropriate referrals.
  • Participate in evaluation and data tracking activities to assess programming quality and impact for grant reporting.
  • Develop and prepare narrative sections of grant proposals and reports in collaboration with the Development Department and Director of Education.
  • Attend Community Engagement Department and affiliate-wide training and meetings across the service area.
  • Attend local, regional, and national events, meetings, and networks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Fluent (verbal and writing) English and Spanish language skills are required.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing and public speaking.
  • Prior knowledge or experience in reproductive health, sexuality, outreach, and/or education.
  • Valid CA driver's license, reliable automobile transportation, and insurance in accordance with California DMV requirements.
  • Proficient use of web-based applications including Microsoft Office 365, Google Suite, Salesforce, Smartsheet, Zoom, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or two (2) or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Mixteco language skills are strongly preferred.
  • Experience providing presentations on sexual and reproductive health issues or other health topics preferred.
  • Experience with reproductive health and justice issues preferred.

Benefits

  • Starting salary of $25.28/hour with an opportunity for an increase after six months of employment.
  • $0.50/hour bilingual Spanish/English differential pay upon passing the language assessment test.
