About the position

Gulfcoast North Area Health Education Center, Inc. (GNAHEC) is seeking a dedicated Tobacco Cessation Specialist (TCS) to join our team. This role is pivotal in planning, conducting, and evaluating tobacco cessation classes across our five-county service area, which includes Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties. The TCS will specifically coordinate tobacco cessation classes and training programs in Pinellas County, ensuring that our services reach consumers and healthcare providers effectively. The Tobacco Cessation Specialist will be responsible for promoting tobacco cessation services to the community and providing training programs to healthcare professionals. This position requires a proactive approach to oversee the delivery of GNAHEC's tobacco cessation services to various stakeholders, including healthcare providers and area employers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health education, public health, or a related field, with a focus on tobacco prevention and cessation. Candidates should possess a Master's Degree in health/public health, social work, counseling, or a mental health-related field, along with at least two years of relevant experience. However, candidates with a Bachelor's degree and significant experience in behavioral health, tobacco prevention, and health promotion will also be considered. The role demands excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills, as well as experience in marketing, public relations, group facilitation, and coaching/counseling. Knowledge of strategic planning, adult education, and multicultural settings is essential. Proficiency in word processing, database management, PowerPoint, and online technologies is highly desirable, and bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, are a plus. This position involves travel throughout GNAHEC's service area, necessitating reliable transportation and a valid Florida driver's license. The role is hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote work and in-person coordination of tobacco program activities in Pinellas County.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, conduct, and evaluate tobacco cessation classes within the service area.
  • Coordinate tobacco cessation classes and trainings specifically in Pinellas County.
  • Promote tobacco cessation services to consumers and training programs to healthcare providers.
  • Oversee the delivery of GNAHEC's tobacco cessation services to healthcare providers and area employers.
  • Facilitate group sessions and provide coaching/counseling to participants.
  • Engage in marketing and public relations efforts to raise awareness about tobacco cessation programs.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in health/public health, social work, counseling, or a mental health-related field with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree with significant experience in behavioral health, tobacco prevention, and health promotion may also be considered.
  • Experience in marketing, public relations, group facilitation, and coaching/counseling.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and planning skills.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in strategic planning, adult education, and multicultural settings.
  • Proficiency in word processing, database management, PowerPoint, and online technologies.
  • Valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation.
