About the position

The Community Health Professional Professor at Tacoma Community College (TCC) is responsible for developing, preparing, and teaching fully online community health coursework within a baccalaureate degree program. This role involves close collaboration with the Community Health Professional chair and reporting directly to the Dean of Healthcare. Although the courses are delivered entirely online, the position necessitates regular on-campus activities for college and program work, student meetings, industry partner meetings, and other related functions as outlined in the Faculty Negotiated Agreement, section 6.22. In this position, the professor will prepare and teach baccalaureate-level courses in the field of Community Health, working alongside program faculty and staff to develop curriculum and programs that incorporate current educational theories and research. The professor will also be responsible for integrating innovative approaches to instruction, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies tailored to the needs of learners in an online environment. Additionally, the professor will engage with an advisory committee of community partners to ensure that the curriculum remains relevant to local industry needs. The role includes evaluating student progress and providing clear, timely feedback based on program criteria and expectations. Maintaining regular office hours is essential to improve student retention and success. The professor will also work with local employers and students to facilitate internships, support division and department goals, and participate actively in departmental responsibilities, including curriculum review, program development, and faculty meetings. Participation in the college's professional development and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion events is also expected, along with performing related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach fully online baccalaureate level courses in the field of Community Health.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Community Health, Social Work, Nursing, Health Administration, Human Services, or related field OR equivalent work experience.
  • Three years relevant work experience and/or relevant current teaching experience that particularly qualifies the candidate to provide instruction in community health.
  • Intermediate level computer and technology skills.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, teach and mentor students in the profession of community health.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctoral degree in Public Health, Community Health, Social Work, Nursing, Human Services, or related field.
  • Experience teaching at a secondary or post-secondary level.
  • Experience in using online learning management systems (Blackboard, Canvas, etc.).
  • Experience in curriculum development at a baccalaureate level.
  • Experience developing community contacts.
  • Experience teaching or doing research in Native/Indigenous communities.
  • Experience working in diverse populations.
