About the position

As the Community Liaison Officer at Drax, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Community Team's strategy in the United States, particularly in Alabama and Mississippi. Your primary responsibility will be to foster trust and facilitate effective communication between Drax and the local communities in which we operate. This involves engaging with community leaders, non-profit organizations, and under-represented voices to ensure that Drax's initiatives align with community needs and aspirations. You will serve as the first point of contact for community inquiries, helping to build strong relationships and promote Drax's objectives within these communities. In this role, you will be tasked with organizing community events and meetings that enhance Drax's visibility and engagement, as well as coordinating grant opportunities. You will also be responsible for gathering and maintaining data on community demographics and feedback, which will support evidence-based decision-making within the organization. Collaboration will be key, as you will work closely with local organizations, government agencies, and stakeholders to identify partnership opportunities and drive community initiatives forward. Your role will require regular travel within Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi, with expectations of up to 50% travel, including potential overnight stays. This position is essential for ensuring that Drax not only meets its business objectives but also contributes positively to the communities it serves, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable energy and community development.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a bridge between the organization and the local community, fostering positive relationships and maintaining a strong presence within the community.
  • Facilitate effective communication between community members and the organization, conveying information, updates, and resources in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Collaborate with community partners to identify their needs, challenges, and aspirations, and communicate these insights within Drax to inform program development and improvements.
  • Provide information and referrals to community members seeking assistance or resources, connecting them with appropriate services or programs within Drax.
  • Plan and organize community events and meetings that promote Drax's community engagement, grant opportunities, and brand awareness.
  • Gather and maintain data on community demographics, concerns, and feedback to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Collaborate with local community organizations, government agencies, and stakeholders to identify opportunities for partnership and collaboration on community initiatives.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social work, community development, public relations, or a related discipline is preferred but not always required. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse community members and present information effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to find creative solutions to community challenges.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and an understanding of how cultural factors may impact community dynamics and interactions.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills to plan and execute community events and initiatives.
  • Strong networking abilities to connect with community leaders, organizations, and resources.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and the ability to use digital tools for communication and data collection.
  • Familiarity with the local community, its demographics, and the social and economic challenges it faces.
