About the position

The Community Media Liaison at Beacon Media is a pivotal role focused on establishing and nurturing relationships with local media outlets across North Carolina. This position aims to elevate community voices and facilitate the distribution of impactful commentary and news content through various media channels, including newspapers, radio stations, and community groups. The Liaison will play a crucial part in building a network that amplifies the narratives of local leaders and fosters positive change within the community.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain relationships with newspaper editors, radio station management, and other community news leaders.
• Track the placement of Beacon Media content in targeted media outlets.
• Identify additional outlets for Beacon Media distribution, such as church news bulletins and WhatsApp groups.
• Research community media ecosystems in target communities.
• Develop relationships with local leaders to understand key issues facing the community and trusted publications.

Requirements

• 3-5 years experience in community-focused marketing, communications, journalism, and/or organizing.
• Strong creativity and communication skills.
• Passion for community media and bold ideas that will move North Carolina forward.

Nice-to-haves

• Spanish-speaking or bilingual skills.
• Journalism knowledge, background, or interest.
• Curiosity or background in local community affairs.
• Interest and knowledge of news and information networks.
