About the position

The Community Organizing Manager at SOMOS Mayfair plays a crucial role in building power within the East San Jose community to challenge systemic injustices and create sustainable change. This position involves leading community organizing efforts, developing policies focused on early education, immigration, and racial/economic justice, and working collaboratively with the Community Organizing Director to implement a community-driven agenda. The ideal candidate will be passionate about social justice and have experience in grassroots organizing, leadership development, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement action campaign plans and power mapping strategies.
• Support organizing teams in outreach strategies to build a robust base of leaders and supporters.
• Assist in policy research and advocacy opportunities aligned with SOMOS Mayfair's vision.
• Execute civic engagement campaigns, including developing effective plans and recruiting coalition allies.
• Represent SOMOS at community gatherings and workshops, promoting the organization's mission and goals.
• Track and report on organizing and policy program goals and outcomes.
• Foster a team-oriented environment focused on community organizing and power building.
• Develop and supervise an effective organizing team, providing opportunities for learning and growth.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or 3 years of significant community organizing experience.
• 1 year of experience supervising projects and employees.
• Deep understanding of root causes impacting marginalized communities.
• Experience running campaigns using popular education and mobilizing coalitions.
• Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms.

Nice-to-haves

• Bilingual in Spanish and English.
