About the position

The position involves providing outreach and social service assistance as part of the Clean and Sober Outreach and General Assistance program. Under supervision, the employee will engage with the community through various methods such as telephone calls, home visits, and direct interactions to identify and address clients' needs related to behavioral health, transportation, and social services. The role requires the development and implementation of outreach strategies aimed at increasing awareness of the behavioral health program within the community. The employee will inform clients about available services, assist them in completing necessary forms, and advocate on their behalf when needed. Collaboration with local organizations, schools, businesses, and community leaders is essential to establish partnerships and enhance outreach efforts. The position also involves transporting clients to obtain medical, substance use disorder (SUD), or mental health (MH) treatment, as well as conducting periodic home visits to monitor client needs. Additionally, the employee will participate in training the community on the use of Overdose Prevention kits, Harm Reduction strategies, and stigma prevention related to SUD and MH conditions. Organizing and participating in community events, workshops, and presentations to educate the public about SUD and MH resources is also a key responsibility. Maintaining accurate records of outreach activities and community partnerships, while ensuring compliance with privacy regulations, is crucial. The role may also include supporting administrative functions within the Behavioral Health Program (BHP). Due to the Tribe's commitment to community service, employees may be expected to perform a variety of office and field duties beyond their regular responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach through community engagement, telephone calls, and home visits to identify clients' needs for behavioral health, transportation, or social service assistance.
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase awareness of the behavioral health program within the community.
  • Inform clients of available services and refer them to appropriate service providers or community resources; assist clients in filling out forms and advocate on their behalf if necessary.
  • Collaborate with local organizations, schools, businesses, and community leaders to establish partnerships and expand outreach efforts.
  • Transport and/or accompany clients and families to obtain medical, SUD, or MH treatment or other required services.
  • Conduct periodic home visits to monitor client needs.
  • Participate in training the community on the utilization of Overdose Prevention kits, Harm Reduction, and stigma prevention associated with SUD and MH conditions.
  • Organize and participate in community events, workshops, and presentations to educate the public about SUD and MH resources and services.
  • Conduct outreach activities such as distributing informational materials, hosting support groups, and engaging with community members directly.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, community partnerships, and participant feedback.
  • Collaborate with internal behavioral health team members to ensure alignment and effectiveness of outreach efforts with program goals.
  • Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all protected health information in accordance with the Division's Policies and Procedures, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Support administrative functions within the Behavioral Health Program (BHP).

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent and six (6) months of related experience in a community services organization is required.
  • Ability to obtain 40 hours of training to become a Certified Peer Counselor through HCA within 6 months of hire or at a time set by the tribe.
  • Understanding of behavioral health issues, SUD and MH conditions, and treatment options.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a diverse community.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational skills.
  • General computer proficiency and able to use electronic health records in a timely manner.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, ethical conduct, and sensitivity in working with individuals seeking behavioral health support.
  • Valid driver's license and access to transportation for community outreach activities.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 years of experience as Peer Specialist with certification through WA State Health Care Authority.
  • Experience working as part of a crisis response team.
