About the position

The Community Outreach Counselor for the Massachusetts Skills, Training, Education Programs (MassSTEP) at Bristol Community College is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the program, which integrates adult education with workforce preparation activities. This part-time position focuses on supporting students in achieving their educational and career goals, particularly in fields such as Clean Water Technology and Certified Nursing Assistant. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, program development, and providing comprehensive advising services to enhance student success.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage day-to-day operations of the MassSTEP program in accordance with MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education policies.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with area Adult Education programs, local MassHire Career Centers, and community organizations.
  • Coordinate employer engagement activities, career nights, industry field trips, and internships with occupational skills training partners.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for new projects in priority industries, including funding opportunities.
  • Develop and implement program orientations, recruitment presentations, and workshops.
  • Assist students in developing academic and career goals and define action steps to achieve those goals.
  • Implement retention strategies to address barriers to program completion and make referrals to support services.
  • Provide ongoing academic advisement and monitor students' academic progress.
  • Assist students in using technologies for education and career planning.
  • Guide students through career exploration and education activities, both individually and in groups.
  • Collaborate with staff to track student enrollment, academic progress, and outcomes.
  • Maintain confidential student files and input grant-required data into the Department of Education data management system.
  • Attend staff meetings, college meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Participate in state meetings and professional development as required.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and reflect Bristol's core values in interactions with the community.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda in all job functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of experience in career counseling, academic advising, or related areas.
  • Experience supporting students in meeting education, training, and employment goals.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation for travel to various work-sites.
